Anthropic ships Claude Sonnet 5 with near-Opus reasoning at a lower price

Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 5 on June 30, positioning it as its most capable agentic Sonnet yet, with reasoning, coding and tool-use benchmarks approaching flagship Opus 4.8. It scored 63.2% on SWE-bench Pro and edged past Opus on one knowledge-work test. Introductory pricing runs $2 per million input tokens and $10 output through August, well below Opus.
