Google recasts AI leadership: Hassabis moves to chair, Jeff Dean exits after 27 years

Alphabet made Demis Hassabis chair of Google DeepMind and its chief scientist, handing daily control to Koray Kavukcuoglu, who now reports to Sundar Pichai and oversees Gemini. Jeff Dean is leaving after 27 years, joining Sanjay Ghemawat, Oriol Vinyals and Quoc Le at Discovery Loop, which Google is backing. Alphabet shares fell about 5% amid mounting pressure from OpenAI and Anthropic.
