Google to put its TPU AI chips in orbit for the first time with Project Suncatcher

Google says its Project Suncatcher research effort will put Tensor Processing Units in orbit for the first time aboard SpaceX's Transporter-18 rideshare, on a prototype satellite built with Planet. The flight will measure how the AI chips cope with launch stress, radiation and temperature swings, and whether a heat-pipe-and-radiator cooling design works in vacuum. A two-satellite laser-link test follows in 2027.
