India clears Semicon 2.0, a ₹1.28 lakh crore push to build its chip ecosystem

India's Union Cabinet has cleared Semicon 2.0, committing ₹1,27,500 crore over six years to deepen the country's semiconductor ecosystem. The programme spans six pillars: chip design, equipment and materials, fabs, packaging and testing units, R&D, and talent development. It builds on Semicon 1.0's twelve approved projects worth over ₹1.64 lakh crore in investment, with India's first fab expected in 2028.
