Meta's Wang says in-training 'Watermelon' model has caught up to GPT-5.5

Meta superintelligence chief Alexandr Wang told staff at an internal town hall that 'Watermelon,' a model still in training, has matched OpenAI's GPT-5.5 on unnamed benchmarks. He said it uses roughly ten times the compute of its predecessor. The claim is unverified by third parties, and OpenAI has since previewed GPT-5.6, already superseding the model cited.
