Fed raises rates by 25 basis points to 3.75%–4%, its first hike since 2023

The Federal Reserve lifted its benchmark rate by a quarter point to a 3.75%–4% range, its first hike since 2023, in a unanimous 12–0 vote. Officials said inflation is still too high and framed the move as speeding a return to 2%. Growth and hiring were described as solid. Updated projections show most policymakers expect at least one more increase this year.
